The races will start just after the famous Tulip Time Parade, which will ensure there will be a decent crowd lining the streets to cheer you on. Previous versions of this race were restricted to school aged runners, with this year being the first time the event has been opened to all age groups.
The School Challenge competition will once again make an appearance, with the fastest school runner being recognised in both Primary and High School age groups. Previous results have been as follows:

All runners will be required to register at the marshalling area in Wingecarribee St ( in foyer of ANZ Bank) between 12:30pm and 2:30pm to pick up their race bibs and timing chips and allow for pre-race safety briefings and race organisation. The section of Wingecarribee St between Station St and Bong Bong St will be closed to traffic and will be the marshalling area for all runners prior to the race.
Runners will be able to warm up as needed, but will be required to marshall in the marshalling area 10 minutes before their race starts. In order to move through the races quickly, runners will be escorted to the start line as soon as the last finisher of the previous race crosses the line.
All runners will also need to be present for the compulsory pre-race safety briefing at 2:45pm, which will occur at the marshalling area in Wingecarribee Street.
The event will consist of between 5 and 8 individual races, depending on the number of entrants for each grouping, but at this stage the proposed schedule is as follows;
3:00 + 3:10pm Primary School Mile (Girls and Boys)
3:20 + 3:30pm High School Mile (Girls and Boys)
3:40 + 3:50pm Masters 40 + (Female and Male)
4:00 + 4:10pm Open and Elite Male and Female
Each race will be capped for safety reasons, so once entries are full for each specific race we will not be able to take any additional entries.
The course map is shown below. Stick to the left hand side of the road (is if you are driving), follow the instructions from the marshalls and umpires, try not to stop for coffee, and you’ll be fine!
The start line is on the road, between the Gumnut Patisserie and Peter Alexander.
The race involves two laps of Bong Bong Street, starting at the pedestrian crossing outside Gumnut Patisserie. The course proceeds south down Bong Bong St in the southbound lane to the first turnaround point around the roundabout at Banyette St. Runners proceed around the roundabout, staying on the road surface at all times, and run in a northerly direction in the north bound lane back along Bong Bong Street. They will run up a slight incline, pass back over the start line, and proceed to the second turnaround, which will be around a turnaround marker at the traffic lights at Merrigang St. Runners will proceed on the road surface around the turnaround, and then proceed back in a southerly direction down Bong Bong St. They will pass the start line and proceed back down to the first turnaround point, run around the roundabout, proceeding back up Bong Bong St in a northerly direction to the finish line outside Gumnut Patisserie.
START LINE PROCEDURE
Each race group will be collected from their assembly group 1 minute before the race starting time and will be brought out on to Bong Bong St and will line up behind the pedestrian crossing across both lanes.
After the race starts, runners will proceed down the street in both lanes, and will be required to have moved over to the left lane by the time they pass the Boolwey Street traffic lights.
A lead cyclist will ride ahead of the runners to alert spectators that the race is underway.
Runners will keep to the left side of the road around the race course, completing one and a half laps of the course.
FINISH LINE PROCEDURE
Once runners cross the finish line, which will be the southern edge of the pedestrian crossing, they need to maintain their finish order and enter the marshalling chute, in order for their place to be recorded. A marshall will be present to assist in ensuring runners are in the correct position.
Once the recorder has taken down the name and position, runners proceed to the end of the marshalling chute and are free to warm down or gather their gear.
- The race is held entirely on a smooth asphalt road, and while the road is completely closed to traffic and traffic controllers will be in place, it is vital that all runners take care during the event. There is an increased risk of tripping or falling on the downhill section of the race at the start and midway through the race, as well as at the end point turnarounds.
- The start is slightly crowded. Please minimise the amount of pushing that occurs. Use self seeding (faster runners at the front, slower runners at the back) to reflect your starting position.
- While the road is closed to traffic and pedestrians and barriers have been placed, it is still possible for unforeseen events to occur, such as a dog running out on the course or a pedestrian crossing against the traffic controllers direction. As a result runners should make sure they are aware at all times of their surroundings and be prepared to slow down or stop if they are at risk of a collision. A cyclist will precede each race as a warning to spectators to reduce this risk.
- Due to time constraints all runners will need to have crossed the start line for the second time before the finish tape has been raised into position. While we want the day to be a fun day and want everyone to run to the best of their ability, we are unable to allow runners to run south past the start line once the finish line tape is in place.

How is it the inaugural Tulip Time Mile when you have previous results?
The Tulip Time Mile was held in 2010 and 2014 specifically for school aged runners, with all participants representing their school and limited to Years 3 to 12.
This year, for the first time, the event is being opened to all age groups.

Are there any restrictions on who can enter? Do I have to be fast?
As we are running the event on a Public road, which is closed to traffic but not to Pedestrians, there is an age limit on entrants. All entrants should ideally be in Year 3 or older.
The event is open to runners of all standards. However, due to the fact that the course is one and a half laps, it will be necessary for all runners to be over the start line after the first lap before the first runner is finishing.
