WARATAH RUN SERIES

The Waratah Run Series is a rebranded and remodelled set of XC, road races and relays events. These events are for participants of all ages and abilities, and focus on participant enjoyment and on the day entertainment.

Formally, this series is known as the ‘Athletics NSW Winter Series,’ combining a community based social event with a championship component.

ST GEORGE CLASSIC

The St George Classic encompasses a range of events from 2km to 10km distances. The event is held on the beautiful trails of Scarborough Park, Ramsgate. Furthermore, throughout the day there will be captivating race callers, food and beverage stalls and entertaining music.

The 2018 St George Classic incorporates the 2018 NSW Cross Country Novice Championship as part of the event.

ELIGIBILITY

Members are to be registered with Athletics NSW (or other state member association or Little Athletics NSW) for the 2017-18 season and wear their club/centre uniform with their bibs worn front and back for the duration of the event.

Non-members are eligible to enter however only ANSW registered athletes (or other athletes registered with another state member association) are eligible to receive medals in State Championship events.

TAG TIMING

Athletics NSW Full Members competing in the Waratah Series (excluding Dual, Community and Club athletes) will receive a Timing Tag for the season.

This tag is to be collected at the first event they attend, and is to be kept for the remainder of the 2018 Waratah and RunNSW Season.

Athletes must return the tags to Athletics NSW at the end of the season, as new tags will be allocated each season. 

The purpose of the Timing Tag is to provide a greater benefit to our members through a more efficient ‘Check In’ process for events and competitions. It is important to note that the Number on the Timing Tag will match the number on the Athlete’s Bib.

Dual members and non-members will be required to report to athlete check in at least 45 minutes prior to the race start time to collect a temporary timing tag. This tag must be returned at the conclusion of the race.

PARTICIPANT CHECK-IN

Full Athletics NSW Members (excluding Dual, Community and Club athletes) who have entered online are required to report to athlete check-in to pick up their timing tag for the 2018 Waratah/RunNSW season.

Members will need to wear both their competition bib and dedicated timing tag for their performance to be verified.

Dual members and non-members will be required to report to athlete check in at least 45 minutes prior to the race start time to collect a temporary timing tag. This tag must be returned at the conclusion of the race.

WHAT IS THE NOVICE CHAMPIONSHIPS?

In order to be considered eligible to race in the Novice Men’s 10km or Novice Women’s 7km, athletes must not have placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in a NSW State Cross Country or track event 3000m to 42,195m in the Open age group. This includes the NSW Half Marathon and Marathon Championships (or similar events from other State Association competitions). Any athlete who has achieved a National or International medal will also be deemed ineligible for the Novice Championship race.

MEDAL PRESENTATION:

Both individual and team medals will be awarded at the conclusion of the Novice races.

PARKING

On-street parking is available along Hawthorne St and nearby streets.

FOOD & BEVERAGES

The St George and Districts Club will be operating a canteen including a BBQ. On top of this, the event will play host to on the day activations, encaptivating race callers as well as entertaining music.

NSW WINTER PREMIERSHIP & WINTER TROPHY

In addition to the NSW Novice Championship races, the following races will be included in the point score for the NSW Winter Premiership and NSW Winter Trophy:

·         U12 boys and girls: 2km

·         U14, U16, U18 boys & girls: 4km

·         U20 girls: 4km

·         55+, 65+ and 75+ men and women 4km

·         Open, 35+, 45+ women: 7km

·         U20, Open, 35+, 45+ men: 10km

Please note that only these age groups in these distances will be scored.

Teams will consist of 4 runners from a club in the relevant age division. Athletes representing their club must wear their correct club uniform and 2017/18 competition bibs. No medals are awarded in non-Championship races.

AGE/GENDER FORM

This form is to be used by clubs who wish to create teams with members who do not fit naturally into the team.  For example an 55+ woman who wants to be in an 35+ club team should be listed on this form, and the form submitted at least 30 minutes BEFORE the race begins.

AGE GROUPS

The NSW Novice Championships is conducted in the Open age group only. The non-championship races are offered in the following age groups: U12, U14, U16, U18, U20, Open, 35+, 45+, 55+, 65+ and 75+.
