The Sydney 10 is a race for everyone! Part of the RunNSW series, the Sydney 10 is an integral fixture in the series that features iconic Fun Runs across NSW. In 2018, the Sydney 10 will be the same flat fast course as previous years, finishing in on the athletics track at the iconic Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre. All races will feature NSW Championship categories and are also open to anyone to compete.

All finishers in all race categories will receive a finishers medal at the finish line!

Prize Money

Outright winners will be awarded prize money
1st place – $500
2nd place – $300
3rd place – $200

A $500 bonus will be split equally to any athlete(s) that break the Sydney:10 course records of Liam Adams 29:22 (2015) or Gwen Jorgensen 32:12 (2015).

Distribution of Race Packs
For entries prior to 30th April: Your race pack will contain your unique bib and race chip, and this will be mailed to you prior to the event. Members please note that you will be required to wear a race specific bib and chip that will be mailed to you, and not your season wide bib and chip. As the race packs will be mailed to the participants, there will be no requirement to check in.

For entries after 30th April: Your rack pack will be available for collection at the registration area located at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre Forecourt. There will be no requirement to visit the registration desk to check in if you are already in possession of your unique bib and chip.

Late entries will be accepted from 5:45 am on the morning of the race.
Your timing chip must be returned after the event.

Start Times & Location
The start line will be outside SOPAC on Dawn Fraser Ave for all races. Runners need to report to the start line 10 minutes before their race. There will be NO SEEDING groups on the start line, so we ask that all runners ensure that they start at an appropriate place, with faster runners at the front, moderate runners in the middle and slower runners/walkers at the back. Any prams should also start at the back.
The finish line will be the finish line of the athletics track inside SOPAC. Runners will enter via the marathon tunnel at the southern end of the ground and complete 350m of the track. A recovery area will be set up after the finish line for runners to recovery with water and electrolyte and remove their timing chips. After exiting the recovery zone runners can meet their friends and family up in the grandstand OR out on the grass infield.
The event precinct with be the Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre. Runners, friends and family are encouraged to use the stands and outfield of the track as their ‘home base’. Runners can warm up on the grass infield of SOPAC, outside the stadium or on parts of the course. The track itself will NOT be available for warm ups

Toilets
There are three toilet stops along the course:
– Cathy Freeman park at the 500m/4.5km mark of each loop
– The Brick Pit located at the far turn around point. (2.3km / 7.3km)
– Adjacent to the start line on the ANZ stadium side of Dawn Fraser Ave (0km)
– There are also ample toilet facilities at SOPAC which is the event hub.

Race Briefing
This will occur 15 minutes prior to the start of each distance, at the start line.

Club Uniform
Important Notice to Athletics NSW Members: To be eligible for Athletics NSW medals members MUST wear their club uniform.

Baggage Area
A secure baggage area will be located in VIP room 2 on the concourse of the Athletics Centre. Runners who leave their bags inside the baggage area will write their name and bib number on the front and leave their bag with an attendant. Do NOT leave valuables in bags left in the baggage area. This is a service to runners, but Athletics NSW cannot guarantee security of items left.

Courses
The course is a flat, fast course with a finish in the Athletics Centre
All races will start on the famous Dawn Fraser Avenue adjacent to Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre (SOPAC). Runners will proceed towards Olympic Boulevard, where they will turn left and then right onto Kevin Coombs Ave. The 5k and 10k turns will be marked shortly after, with the 5k runners exiting the course into the athletics centre and the 10k runners completing a U turn on Dawn Fraser avenue for the second lap. On approach to the finish, runners will exit Dawn Fraser Avenue to the north of SOPAC, run along the access lane between SOPAC and the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre and then enter the Athletics Centre via the ‘marathon’ tunnel and complete the final 350m on the track.

Drink Stations
The drink stations are placed at:
– Brick Pit Roadside 2.3km and 7.3km (water only)
– Cathy Freeman Park Roadside 4.8km and 9.0km (water only)
– Finish line (water and electrolyte).

Pace Groups
The Sydney Striders are providing pace groups for the Sydney10. There will be two runners running at running at the following paces: 40 minutes, 45 minutes, 50 minutes, 55 minutes, 60 minutes.

Parking

The closest parking to SOPAC is the P1 and P2 parking stations. Both P1 and P2 parking stations are within 300m of SOPAC where all the action is taking place! There will be four hours of FREE parking at either P1 carpark. You must have you parking slip validated at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre reception on the morning of the event.

Can my club set up a tent?

Yes! Clubs are invited to set up their club tents between the home straight and the grandstand of SOPAC. Please email benstlawrence@nswathletics.org.au to book a position for your tent. Also note that pegs/stakes cannot be used to hold tents to the ground.

How can I view my official result?

Runners will be able to see their result on the main score board as soon as they cross the finish line! Live results will also be found via the ANSW live results page; http://www.nswathletics.info/liveresults/

What Presentations will be held on the day?

Medal presentations will happen as per timetable below:
8:00am: Wheelchair 10km
8:50am: Sydney 10km winners only (NSW Medals for: Open Male & Female, U/20 Male, Masters Male & Female will be sent out by mail)
9:30am: Greater 5km Fun Run winners only (NSW Medals for: U20 Female, U18 Male & U18 Female, U16 Male & U16 Female shall be sent out by mail)
10:00am: NSW Little Athletics 2.5km Winners only (NSW Medals for: 2.5km U14 Male, U14 Female, U12 Male & U12 Female shall be sent out by mail)

The remainder category and team results will be listed on the website by 10:00am and medals/prizes mailed out to winners within 14 days.

Do I need to wear a timing tag and event bib?

Race packs including bibs and chips will be sent out to all runners who have registered on or before 30th April. For those who have registered after this date, race packs will be collected on the morning of the race, from 6:30.
All runners, including members and dual members, will wear a bib and chip that is specific to the Sydney 10, and will not be required to wear their season-wide bib number
Timing tags must be attached to the shoe in the correct way as detailed in the race packs. Runners who do not attach the tag int he correct way will not receive a time.

When will ANSW team results be worked out?

Team results will be worked out in the week following the Sydney 10. The first four eligible athletes from a club in each division will be the default team. Should an athlete be running for a team outside of their own age division a club representative needs to fill in a TEAMS PROXY FORM located at check in on the day.
Team medal winners will be sent their medals via the post and results listed on the RunNSW and Athletics NSW websites.
