Part of the Athletics NSW RunNSW series, the Casino Fun Run promises to be a fun day for all ages and abilities!
The Greater Casino Fun Run features the Casino RSM 10km, Greater Casino 5km and Parker & Kissane Solicitors 2km distances. We encourage everyone across the Northern Rivers to enter and be part of this special day which includes a picturesque course taking in the main street of Walker St and finishing at the iconic Queen Elizabeth Park.

As an added bonus, our schools teams get the chance to compete for the Bularr Nagru Cup in the 5k for High School teams and 2k for Primary School teams. So don’t delay, enter a team today!

Greater Bank Casino Fun Run: In the heartland of the Richmond River Valley

Casino Fun Run was launched in 2014, with over 300 participants. We are looking forward to more runners across the Northern Rivers joining us for this event in 2018. This event is hosted by Richmond Valley Council, Casino Little Athletics and RunNSW.

2018 Event Timetable

The following details are yet to be finalised for the 2018 event with the event hub being Queen Elizabeth Park Number 2. Both the 10km and Kids 2km events start here while the Greater Bank 5km starts outside the RSM Club in the heart of Casino.

6:30am – check in opens QE Park No.2
7:45am – Race Briefing
8:00am – Casino RSM 10km Start (QE2)
8:15am – 5km runners gather behind grandstand at No.1
8:20am – 5km runners walk as a group from QE2 to Canterbury St. 5-7min walk.
8:45am – Greater Bank Casino 5km Start
9:10am – Parker & Kissane Solicitors 2km for kids Start
9:40am – Presentations

School 2km, All age 5km and 10km Teams

School teams of 4-5 students can compete in the Primary Schools 2km Challenge or the High Schools 5k Challenge. Entry is $53 for the 2km team and $80 for the 5k with discounted early bird rates until 9th September! School teams should enter online, there will be medals for the first, second and third school teams, As an added bonus, our schools teams get the chance to compete for the Bularr Nagru Cup in the 5k for High School teams and 2k for Primary School teams. So don’t delay, enter a team today!

The 5km and 10km Team categories has been added for families, friends or businesses to submit a team of 4 – 5 people to complete in the Greater Bank 5km or Casino RSM 10km events. The 5k team entry is $80 and the 10km team entry is $100. Both are significant savings.

On the Day Details

Check in / registration

On the day check in: Runners can collect their running bib and runners pack between 6:30am – 7:45am from the check in tent at QE II Park. Your bib is to be pinned on the front of your running outfit.

Early check in: Early check in is available on Saturday 15th September – at the Greater Bank, 75 Walker St Casino. If you pick up your bib on Saturday you only need to get onto the start line on Sunday.

Event Hub – Queen Elizabeth Park No.2

All the action will take place at Queen Elizabeth Park on No.2 Oval off Hartley St. It is the heart of sport in Casino,  There are two toilet blocks and there will be a canteen / BBQ operating. The map below shows the position of the start and finish lines with respect to the ‘Event Hub’.

Parking and Road Closures

Parking: Parking is available inside the QEP complex, please take care when parking and follow directions of volunteers in the parking area.

Road closures: Hartley Street will be closed from 7:45am. It is advised that participants park within QE Park complex before 7:45am.

Race Day Instructions

Casino RSM 10km Race instructions:
– The 10km start line is inside the QEII
– A race briefing will occur at 7:45am in front of the main grandstand at QEII. We require BOTH 10km runners and 5km runners to be present at this briefing.
– The 10km will start at 8:00am at QEII – check out the map for a course outline
– Stay on the left of the course at all times be that the roadway or the cycle path.
– The finish line will be inside QEII.

Greater Bank 5km Race Instructions
– The 5km start line is located at Canterbury St, outside the RSM Club.
– Attend the race briefing at 7:45am
– Gather in front of the grandstand at QEII at 8:15am to walk across to the start line located on Canterbury St. We will have ushers to take you at this time or you can make your own way over using the pedestrian bridge across the Richmond River. It is a distance of approximately 700m.
– 5km race starts at 8:45am

Parker & Kissane Solicitor 2km Race Instructions
– Race briefing will occur at 9:00am in front of the main grandstand.
– Race will start on Hartley St at 9:10am
– parents and carers may run with the kids but MUST exit the run course before the finish line. We also ask that you fill in a participant agreement on the day. There is no charge for parents or carers to run.

Presentations, Drink Stations and Results

Presentations: The presentation will feature medals to the winners of each category and some lucky draw prizes. This will be held at 9:50am or as soon as the results are complete. Prizes have been donated by the following businesses which we thank for their support.

Drink Stations: There will be two drink stations located at approximately 2km, 5km, 7km and 9km points of the 10km.

Results – will be available after the event in the Results tab.


Event Descriptions

Casino RSM 10km Fun Run –

Categories:
Open (17-39) | Masters 40+ | Masters 55+

Course:
This run will start from Queen Elizabeth Park, out along Hartley Street, then runs into town turning at the Casino RSM, and heading back towards Queen Elizabeth Park.

10km Time Limit:
Local Police would like to ensure the roads are reopened as soon as possible therefore a time limit of 1hr 45 minutes will apply for 10km participants.


 

Greater Bank 5km Fun Run

Categories:
U16 | Opens (17-39) | Masters 40+

Course:
This run will start from Casino RSM and head through town then out towards Queen Elizabeth Park.

Prizes:
Medals will be awarded to the first 3 men and women and the category winners.

5km is a good distance to start:
You don’t need to be a trained or experienced runner to participate, in fact the 5k event is targeted at encouraging people to be active and simply having a go. This event is ideal for novice runners, teenagers, walkers and prams.


 

Parker & Kissane 2km Children’s Fun Run

Categories:
Aged between 4 years and 12 years

Course:
The 2km will start on Hartley St and track east before turning around and returning to the finish on QE Park.

Prizes:
The 2km 4 kids will finish on the track and all participants will receive a medal! The first three overall will also receive winners medals.

Kids Team Challenge:
School or social teams of up to 5 kids (primary age) with the top 4 to score.

The Casino Folk Museum has a comprehensive collection of items from an era gone by. With a focus on Casino district history, the museum houses an amazing collection of Aboriginal artefacts, tools and equipment, musical instruments, transport, household articles, photographs and much more. The Casino and District Historical Society was formed in 1965 with the aim of preserving all aspects of Australian culture, local aboriginal artefacts and implements, tools of trade, furniture, newspapers, photographs, diaries and much more. Casino Mini Railway Our steam and diesel loco’s skirt the Casino Golf Course and farmland before arriving at the old Casino Station, which has been developed into a railway museum. Here the passengers can disembark and get a glimpse of the days of Casino’s railroading past. A round trip on our scenic miniature railway is about 4 km. Our trains leave North Casino station and wind through the beautiful Jabiru Geneebeinga Wetlands. The Wetlands are rich in bird life, including a yearly visit by a pair of nesting Jabiru which come to the wetlands to breed.

Passengers can bring a picnic and choose a nice spot to enjoy it then wander along the bush walking tracks before catching a train back to North Casino.

The 10km starts and finishes at QE2, the halfway point is right in front of the 5km point at the RSM Club.

The 5km completes the course from the RSM club to QE2.

There will be a lead bike for each race.

How does the team entry work?

Anyone can add a team by clicking on the ’Add your team here’ buttons above. There is no cost to add a team. The next step is to have your chosen team members ’select’ your team when they enter. Everyone is asked if they are a part of a team when they register, they then just select their chosen team from the drop down list.

How do I Enter?

Complete the online registration form by clicking the Register button at the top of this page. Your details will be taken and a secure credit card payment taken. The online payment system is used by many other Australian Sporting clubs and events including the Melbourne Marathon and Athletics Australia.
