Local people of all ages will have the opportunity to get active, have fun and support the local community at the Greater Bank Raymond Terrace Fun Run on Sunday, September 10.
To be launched at Raymond Terrace Market Place on Thursday, August 10, this year’s event will include three courses; 8km, 4km and a super 2km for kids and speedy adults.
The launch theme this year is ‘’let’s get physical’ and will feature giveaways, cultural drumming performances, appearances by guest
Entries are now open to this year’s event, which will start and finish at the Raymond Terrace Athletics Club at the Vi Barnett Field.
Bronwyn White Athletics NSW Hunter Regional Development Officer said the event encourages the local community to get more active and healthier.
“I was absolutely shocked when I saw the that Australian Health Tracker identified Raymond Terrace as the biggest health problem in NSW with 70.08 per cent of the adult population overweight or obese,” Ms White said.
“Local fun runs and clinics introduce community members to healthy activities that we hope will ultimately make a move in shifting the current cultural identity”
The Greater Bank Raymond Terrace Fun Run is one of 11 Greater Bank Fun Run Series events being held across NSW in 2017.
Community Engagement Manager, Ingrid Kaczor, said that Greater Bank was delighted to play a key role in bring to life an event that engages so many people across the Raymond Terrace and Port Stephens’ communities.
“Greater Bank has a long history of supporting the communities that support us, particularly here in the Hunter. It’s wonderful to be part of an event that not only brings the community together, but also promotes the importance of leading an active and healthy lifestyle,” Ms Kaczor.
“Whether you’re an elite runner, weekend jogger or someone who is just happy to get out and walk the course, I encourage everyone to join us at the starting line on 10 September to support this this great community event and a great cause.”
Event organisers are encouraging local school students to enter teams into this also participants to have some fun by dressing up for the run.
Entries are just $10 for the Little Athletics Kids 2km, $25 for the 8km and $15 for the 4km. All participants will receive a certificate, while medals will be presented for the winners of the major age categories in each of the three runs, as well as spot prizes throughout the day.
