Local people around the Hunter and Port Stephens of all ages will have the opportunity to get active, have fun and support Autism Spectrum Australia at the Greater Bank Raymond Terrace Fun Run later this month.
Entries will be declared open at a launch held today for the event to be held on Sunday 25th of September. The Fun Run will feature eight and four kilometre events and a two kilometre event for kids.
On hand at the launch were local parkrun Run Director Peter Bryan, talented junior runner Amy Summerville and returning Olympian Scott Westcott.
The scenic run will start and finish at Vi Barnett Field and take in a spectacular loop along the Hunter River levee, down historic King Street then along Hunter and Swan Streets. The full loop is 4km which the 8km distance completes twice.
Olympian Scott Westcott said the Fun Run is being held for a third year thanks to the support of major sponsor Greater Building Society, Port Stephens Council and the Raymond Terrace Athletics Club.
Scott said the inaugural even attracted more than 300 entrants and he’s confident this year’s event will be just as strong. Scott said there was interest building amongst schools, commercial gyms and the local ‘parkrun’ running community with the popular Terrace parkrun kicking off in 2016.
Greater Building Society Raymond Branch Manager Damien Hepworth said the event is one of 11 RunNSW community fun runs it is supporting across NSW in 2016 as part of its support. He said the event will also be supporting Autism Spectrum Australia who offers services across all life stages to more than 14,000 Australians on the spectrum and their families each year.
“I encourage people from across the Port Stephens and Raymond Terrace areas to join The Greater Bank in supporting this great community event and a great cause.” Mr Hepworth said.
Early bird entries are just $11.50 for kids and $16.50 for the 4km and $27 for the 8km event (which includes a running tee shirt). Every participant will receive a gift from the Greater Bank and there will be medals major age categories in each of the three runs. Younger runners can represent their school to go in the running for some Athletics NSW coaching clinics for their school.
