Entries open for Greater Bank Fun Armidale Fun Run
The Launch of Greater Bank Armidale Fun Run took place on Thursday September 22 at Sport UNE, Sport UNE, Armidale.
Local people of all ages from the New England will have the opportunity to get active, have fun and support a local charity at the Greater Bank Armidale Fun Run on November 6.
Entries were declared open at a launch held today (September 22). The Fun Run will feature the Roberts & Morrow 10km, Greater Bank 5km and Sportspower 2km event for kids.
On hand at the launch was Armidale Athletics Club president Jay Stone, 2015 kids’ 2km event winners Isabella Gooch of Armidale High School and George Schmude of St Mary’s Catholic School. The launch was hosted by returning Olympian and former UNE student, Scott Westcott.
The scenic run will start and finish Harris Park and take in a spectacular loop from Dumaresq Steet in the city centre out to the UNE colleges and returning. The run is on sealed roads and bike path with the final 300 metres on the Harris Park athletics track.
Mr Westcott, who is also RunNSW recreation running manager, said the fun run is being held for a fourth year thanks to the support of commercial partners Greater Bank, Roberts & Morrow, Sport UNE, Armidale Sports Power. It is co-hosted by Armidale Athletics Club and Armidale Regional Council.
He said the inaugural even attracted more than 450 entrants and he’s confident this year’s event will be just as strong. Scott said there was interest building amongst schools, commercial gyms and the growing parkrun running communities in Armidale and Tamworth.
Greater Bank Armidale branch supervisor Shannan Feneley said the event is one of 11 RunNSW community fun runs it is supporting across NSW in 2016. She said the event will be supporting local charity Backtrack, which offers vocational training support to at risk young people across the region.
“I encourage people from across Armidale and the New England to join Greater Bank in supporting this great community event and a great cause,” Ms Feneley said.
Early bird entries are just $11.50 for kids and $16.50 for the 5km and $27 for the 10km event (which includes a running tee shirt). Every participant will receive a gift from the Greater Bank and there will be medals major age categories in each of the three runs. Younger runners can represent their school for a chance to win some Athletics NSW coaching clinics for their school.
