ATHLETICS NSW is pleased to announce the return of the Roberts & Morrow Armidale Fun Run on the first Sunday in November, Sunday 2 November.

This exciting community-based initiative will again feature three fun runs: Roberts & Morrow 10km, Sport UNE 5km and Gerard Kelly Solicitor 2km4kids.

According to Managing Director and CEO of Athletics NSW Greg Meagher, Athletics NSW was committed to staging events in regional NSW and increasing participation in athletics across the State.

Armidale’s Mayor Laurie Bishop said: “The council is proud to continue their support and are pleased it is now a mainstay on our Event calendar. We encourage everyone to get involved and make this the largest running event in Australia’s highest city.”

Roberts & Morrow declared their ongoing support by continuing on from 2013 to 2014 as both the naming rights and 10km sponsor. Karen Tromp, Business Services Partner said, “Roberts & Morrow are delighted to again be involved in ensuring Armidale features a regular, professionally organised Fun Run that engages the community and brings visitors to the region. Last year’s event was a huge success with over 450 runners and we are very proud to support this community event for Armidale.”

Director for UNE Life David Schumde said: “SportUNE is committed to providing Armidale with opportunities to host sports events and to showcase the University facilities and to grow Armidale’s region of runners. We were impressed with the delivery of last year’s by Athletics NSW. By hosting these events we can build Armidale’s profile as the ideal place for holding sporting events. The 5km event is the perfect distance entry level for those starting out or simply wanting to share the experience with friends and family.”

Gerard Kelly of Gerard Kelly Solicitor said: “It was a terrific event last year, with over 80 children involved along with their parents. What a great way for families to enjoy time together while participating in a sport together. We wanted to be involved again as events like these are not only important for our children and their health and well-being, but also for the benefit of the Armidale community.“

Each of the fun runs will start from Harris Park, the home of the Armidale Athletics Club and will head out towards the University colleges via the cycle and walk ways.

The course will be officially measured by Athletics NSW. There will be prizes for winners in each of the three races, an event T-shirt for early bird entries and giveaways post run.

Entries are now open at www.armidalefunrun.com.au. To receive a free event t-shirt and be eligible for the early bird rate, participants must enter by 5pm Friday 10 October.

The event is seeking the support of volunteers and we encourage all those interested, to register their interest by emailing the Armidale Athletics Club at: president@armidaleathletics.org.au
